Are You The Victim of Your Own Self-Talk?

Is you life just a series of “self-fulfilling prophecies”? I am sure you know what this means, but if not, it refers to our ability to imagine that an event will happen to us and then we watch as it unfolds just as we imagined.

Usually when people think of self-fulfilling prophecies they refer to all of the bad things that occur in their lives.

This is because we worry so much about what it will be like when they do finally occur and this just sends out a message that we are expecting the accident, the illness, the lay-off at work, or the breakup in our relationship. And what happens, but what we expect.

I read somewhere that worry is just like praying for something we don’t want to happen.

So, if worrying is a good way to make something occur that you don’t want, then what can we use to make things occur that you do want?

The New Testament encourages us to think on things that are good, lovely, honest, pure and which cause a good report. It says for us to let these images fill our minds and hearts instead of those of gloom, doom and despair.

Often, before they occur, the subjects of our self-fulfilling prophecies show up and occupy our thoughts and they drift down and find expression in the things we say. We find ourselves talking about the things that we are worried about.

So what have you been talking about this past week? Have you found yourself saying any of the following statements?

  • This is the worst week of my life.
  • I expect this will never work out.
  • I can’t imagine how this will ever change or get better.
  • These all result in things not working and maybe even getting worse.

So how do we change this?

How do we make things happen differently in our lives?

One technique that I like to us is self-talk. Many people refer to this as using an affirmation. You might notice that the root of affirmation is “affirm” – to agree to, to say yes to.

Using affirmation is all about saying yes to what do want to happen in our lives instead of what we don’t want.

It changes our focus to one of allowing he good instead of resisting what we don’t desire. This helps us to cultivate good, positive and life-affirming and enhancing expectations.

So here are just a few affirmations that I love to use. Please feel free to leave you comments about any of these and also, if you have affirmations that you use, share them with all of us.

  • I am grateful for all that I have.
  • I am a vessel through which good flows.
  • I am a beloved child of God and I don’t inherit sickness.
  • I attract only good into my life by expecting only good.

Use these affirmations frequently and say them with conviction. Let yourself begin to feel what it is like for these words to be true. And as you do, this will keep you focused on the good, positive and life-enhancing expectations that you wish to manifest in your life.

And my friends, you will attract it!

Inlets AND Outlets

In my last post, I mentioned that I have 5 suggestions for making your life tremendous. Let me mention again the first 3 ideas that I shared.

Choose Happiness

Change Your Words, Change Your World

Dare To Be Who You Really Are

As you might have noticed, these 3 suggestions are things you do inside yourself, your inside work. And they begin to move out from you as you speak words that are positive, life-affirming and encouraging.

If you need help working on the inside, in your mind and heart, check out the items below that deal with meditation and going within. For if you are not willing to go within — into the silent loving space in your heart where you can quiet your mind — then you really will go without. You will seek peace and happiness in other people, things or events outside yourself and you will not find the peace, love and happiness you desire. You will go with out.

Having said all of that, now let’s see what my next suggestion is for creating a tremendous life.

Live To Give

Giving is one of the most talked about activities but it is also one of the most misunderstood activities in which we engage.

Too often, we think of giving as a linear activity and as one of subtraction. We give someone something that they want or need and we see ourselves as being depleted in that item — whether it is love, money or some other material item. We gave something away and now we have less.

The good news I want to share with you now is that there is not a word of truth in that explanation — unless you choose that this is the truth and how it is.

I have found a different way of looking at giving that has made all the difference in my own life. You too might want to try this way of looking at your giving and see how it changes your life.

The Law of Circulation

I now see giving as the physical manifestation of the Law of Circulation. All of life is built on circulation, coming and going, in and out, giving and receiving.

Often we give something to another. We give money to organizations or people. We give old clothes and stuff to charities. We give and give. But too often this just leaves us feeling depleted and used up.

Too many people I know feel good about giving but if someone tried to give them something, well they just don’t feel worthy to receive. It makes them feel, as one person I know says, “wimpy.” But wimpy is just another way of saying unworthy.

Life though has to circulate. It has to come in and go out. It has to flow.

A pond that just has an outlet with no inlet will soon dry up. But a lake that has a river flowing in and one flowing out has a very good chance of being full as it takes water in and gives water out. It also has a good chance of being full of fish and other life.

Ralph Waldo Emerson says that “everyone is the inlet and may become the outlet of God.”

Allow yourself to think and meditate on this idea. Ask Spirit to show you why you feel unworthy to receive. Then allow yourself to show love to that feeling of unworthiness and allow it to be released.

Become both an inlet and an outlet of all God’s blessings as you allow yourself to bless others by letting them be a giver and a receiver also.

In this way the river of life continues to flow both to and through us.

Think on these things and also be sure and share this post with your friends and encourage them to get a free subscription to this blog.

Watch for my next post where I will share my final life changing suggestion with you.

What If God Offered You A Present?

People are always pondering the question “where is God?” This question is as old as time and has engaged the mind and heart of humanity for as long as we have existed.

Most systems of theology seek to answer this question in one of two ways. They either offer a god that is seated somewhere in a heavenly realm and so far removed from the material creation or they see a god that is in every rock, tree, animal or human.

Old Viewpoint

In this blog, I love sharing with you my journey of seeking on purpose.

For many years, I believed in this far distance and removed God. To me, he (and yes, I believed that God was an old white man with a long white beard that was seated on a throne somewhere in heaven. This God was always on the lookout watching for people to stump their toe or do something that he did not approve of so he could strike them with sickness, poverty, bad fortune or ultimately with death and hell.

But for all of those years, yes, while I thought I believed in this God, in my heart, I knew that this was not who God really was.

New Viewpoint

There was a phrase from the Bible that I had read many times that kept coming back to me. But like so many other verses, I just thought and was taught that this was just a nice poetic phrase that was put there and that we could never really fathom the meaning. The verse I refer to is “In God we live and move and have our being.”

After much reflection and contemplation, I feel I now have some understanding of this verse. To me, it now means that everything that exists only exists as a part and an emanation of God. It says that there is no where that we can go that is not a part of God. As the Psalmist says, “if we go to the highest or if we plummet to the depths, there is God.”

Yes, wherever we are, God is!!

Maybe all that is really needed in order to answer the question “where is God?” is just a new sense of awareness. We just need to allow ourselves to become aware of the fact that God is right where we are.

For me, I readily become aware of this wonderful presence as I sit in silence in my office or as I walk about in nature. Stilling my thoughts, I sense a presence, an energy that permeates all the space around and within me. I breath deeply and feel life and peace and joy entering and filling my body.

And as do, I am enabled to look  behind all the seeming temporary effects of life and to see the wholeness and perfection from which all of life springs. I take my gaze away from the effects and I look at the cause and as I do, I have to acknowledge that “all is well.”

I find while in this new awareness a greater knowing that the universe in which I live and move and experience my being is a good one that moves in divine order. It is a universe that seeks to conspire and work with me to bring to pass in my life experience the perfection and wholeness that is our true nature.

Today, begin to court the presence of God in this way in your own life. Allow yourself to sense and focus on the goodness of life, on the love which God has for you. And as you do, you can come to realize that a greater life is just waiting to find expression though and as you as you begin to allow it to be. And you will say with me “wherever I am, God is and all is well!”

F.E.A.R. — False Evidence

A couple of weeks ago I talked about energy cleansing. If you have not read my post on Energy Cleansing, be sure and read it. I focused on the Energy Cleansing meditation and process on the CD by Ed Spina. If you missed the offer, then order yourself a copy of this wonderful
Energy Center Clearing
.

There is a second meditation on that CD which focuses on cleansing limiting beliefs – beliefs that are no longer working for us. I am going to begin talking today about a big belief that hinders many people. It is the belief and energy known as fear.

Fear is especially pernicious due to all the hype and apocalyptic talk regarding this year, 2012. (I will have more to say regarding my feelings and insights on 2012 as the year progresses.)

2012 brings up much talk about endings and many people feel this is the end of the world when in reality this could be seen as just the ending of an age – like the Dark Ages, the Middle Ages, even the Renaissance or the Modern Age.

But this kind of talk often fosters in people a feeling of FEAR.

This could be fear of the future or fear of the “what ifs” or “what might be.”

You see, no one knows completely what life will be like when we enter the year 2013. And this causes fear to take over our thinking.

But what is fear? I like the explanation I read in many sources that the word fear is an acronym – each letter standing for a word.

FEAR – False Evidence Appearing Real.

So let’s look at this definition a little closer.

“False Evidence” – life so often appears real with pain and problems. But in truth the only reality is that God is life and God is good and therefore life is good. Good is always coming to us. This is what is real. Everything in life is seeking to work together to produce our good – or so a very wise man, Saint Paul, once said.

Instead of looking at at the false evidence that attempts to convince you that it’s real – such as war, pain, illness, lack or separation – allow your spirit to connect with Spirit (God) and to see what is real – peace, wholeness, abundance and oneness.

The choice of what evidence you allow to be admissible in your life is totally up to you and this will determine the verdict you make about life.

1. Life is wonderful and good and I am truly blessed. Or

2. Life is dreadful and nothing good ever happens to me ad I am miserable.

The choice is totally up to you.

Choose life. Choose good. Choose God. It’s all the same. And as you do, you allow your life to demonstrate this reality.

Instead of your life being like a small handwritten sign that barely gets noticed, decide and intend to let it be like a large billboard that catches the attention of the masses as it proclaims and shows off the wonderful life you have chosen to create and thereby inspire others to join in this endeavor.

Let your light shine and bless yourself, other and the world. I sure intend to do this!

Meditation – A Good Step Towards A Greater You

KIn my last post I talked about the next greatest version of the greatest vision that you have ever had about yourself. This is a phrase used by one of my favorite authors, Neale Donald Walsch, in Conversations With God : An Uncommon Dialogue (Book 1). If you have not made the acquaintance of this author or his books, then maybe this year, 2012, is the year for you to get one of the books and read it.

Creating the next greatest version of yourself – the 2012 version – is really one way to follow the words of that great Teacher and Master Jesus. He said words that nearly everyone has heard – “the works that I do you can do also and even greater works will you do.”

We have all heard these words at one time or another and many people believe that they apply to Jesus and maybe even to people we call saints. But unfortunately, most of us don’t really believe that they actually apply to our lives, yours and mine.

But what if they do?

What if he really said what he meant and meant what he said? I believe he did just that!

So what is a good way to begin creating this life?

After you let yourself imagine what this new you might be like, you have to give yourself permission to believe that you really can create it. Realize your own power to create.

Know that you can create and you will.

Know that you are creating at this moment and you are.

After you realize your own power, then you need to take the next step and do something in order to create it. But how do you know what that next step might be?

One of the most powerful way to hear and know what to do next is to meditate – to allow yourself to enter the silent chamber of your own heart and there to commune with that still small voice that speaks out of the silence.

Here you will receive the inspiration and insight of what step you need to take now. It might be just a little one like calling or emailing an old friend or acquaintance that you have lost touch with. They might have just the information or action that you need to have or do. Or it could be a big step like something you need to buy or sell. But whatever the step remember you have to do it in prder to get yourself moving.

You are a unique manifestation of universal creative energy – Spirit – that has incarnated on the earth to experience a physical reality that this particular moment in time.

You are a wonderful, high, spiritual being who only deserves the best.

In 2012, all of the universe is seeking to conspire with you to create a wonderful new reality. But the choice is up to you. There is no question that this new reality is being created. The question and choice you have to make is whether or no you will be a part of it. This is the choice you get to make in 2012. So what’s your choice?

What Will You Create Today?

Today really is the first day of the rest of your life.

This day is like a blank sheet of paper – just waiting to see what you will create as you create the next greatest version of the grandest vision you have ever had of yourself.

This day is filled with infinite possibilities. Nothing is impossible — unless you choose for it to be.

So what will you create today?

Even though the year is already moving forward, it is never too late to take a few minutes today to contemplate your current version of yourself. Some areas you might examine are your physical body, your spiritual life and your emotions, your relationships, and your finances. Think about any of these areas or others that might come to mind. Look at where they are right now and look at them honestly.

This will give you a starting point as you seek to create a new and improved version of yourself.

After you look at these areas for a few moments, allow yourself to imagine what the next greatest version, the 2012 version, might look like. What would the next upgrade in that area include? Allow the changes to be as small or as grand as you want. For whatever it is, this will not be the final version of yourself that you will create. New upgrades can be made as often as you decide to create a new one. YOU are the creator.!

Let your imagination go free… pretend as if what you desire is already a reality… feel the new you… feel the change. Ask yourself “What would my life be like if this version was operating already?” How would you act? Think? Speak? Be?

During the days ahead, let thoughts and ideas come to you as what steps you need to take in order to create this new version, this 2012 version of the greatest vision that you have had about yourself. And as they come to you, take the steps and see where life leads you on your journey this year.

May this be your best year yet!!! I intend for it to be mine.
